Beginner’s Guide

It is said that a wine never lies. The test is the taste itself. There are innumerable types, kinds and varieties of wine in market. From the wines prepared in warm climate of Barbera and thus named Barbera to the smooth texture carrying Carbernets, wine has traversed more boundaries than any other beverage. Though the only difference testing is considered is the process of tasting by connoisseurs. Some flavors invoke other senses and thus can be sensed due to their difference in smell. Primarily the difference is caused by the origin, i.e. different wine comes from different grape varieties.Though it is practically impossible to trace the history of wine, it is said of all purposes that wine first appeared in the year 8000 BC somewhere in the areas adjoining Iran. Thus wine has a very long history which dates back to times before the advent of the very first civilization in the world.  Wine has always fascinated people, sometimes drawing comparisons with God. In ancient times wine was used in religious functions.

Wine colleting is a favorite pastime and sometimes important business for people around the globe. Wines such as super premium wine fetch enormous mullahs and are categorized at Veblen goods.  A vintage wine is considered a costly item and the price appreciation is directly proportional to the age of the wine.

Though production of wine has become a global phenomenon, European nations remain leading producers of wine today, with France leading the pack followed by Italy and Spain, this being contrary to the phenomenon that grapes are commonly found only in the equatorial region.

To name a few these names are the most pronounced names around wine yards and homes: Mourvedre, Nebbiolo, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Sangiovese, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Tempranillo Viogniera and Zinfandel.
