riesling.jpgThe grape of Riesling is one of the most elegant grapes grown in Alsace region. The wine that is made from this is well balanced; graceful and dry. This is the finest of wines of the Alsace region. The wine goes tremendously well with foods such ad shell fish, fish, cold meat, poultry, and the ever famous Alsatian dishes of smoker ham and sauerkraut

The German wine by the same name is however different and is sweet in taste.

GewurztraminerGewurztraminer is derived from the German word Gewûrz which means “spicy”. This is one of the most typical wines of the regions of Alsace and is one of the most popular. As the name suggests it is spicy to the tongue and that is what distinguishes it from the rest. Traminer which means “coming from Tramin, also forms a part of the name because this is the small city in the south if Tyrol of Autria where the grape for this wine comes from.

The wine is itself delicious and fruity with very strong aromas and flowery and extremely perfumed bouquet. It is sweeter in taste that the Riesling, which is dry in nature.

The food to go with this wine is sausages, sauerkraut, and Alsatian cheese Munster; due to its thickness and richness, this is also an ideal companion of spicy curries, Chinese and Mexican dishes.

The cheese which goes very well with this are:- Munster , Roquefort, Langres, Maroilles, Pont l’Eveque
