Is red the healthy way?

is_red_the_healthy_way.jpgRed wine has a reputation for being a healthy choice in alcohol and despite it being alcoholic in nature, has a tendency towards improving the health of a drinker.One drink to bind them should be the punch line of the marketers of red wines. The amount of goodness propounded by the consumption of red wine is considered to range from lungs to heart to cancer to tooth decay and also to longevity. The question remains that how many parts of a single body can be benefited from this one drink which is prima facie harmful.

The start of this whole confusion stemmed from something that the researchers call the “French Paradox”. Researchers noted that French have a diet which is extremely rich in saturated fats, but still there are little reported deaths by the medium of a heart attack. In fact the figures are so low that only 83 people die out of 100,000 Frenchmen, this figure further amazes when we contrast it to the 230 people who die of heart attacks in the US.

The hypothesis to the answer to this paradox is that it could be due to the amount of wine that they drink along with the sat rich food they consume.

There is always been a medicinal tilt of wine, throughout the ages, the liquid has been hailed as a medicine for treating wounds, as water and as a preoperative as well as a tranquilizer, hypnotic and sedative.

One of the foremost causes of death in the urban world is by heart attacks. The heart is in danger from the buildup of clogged fat in the arteries. This constricts the blood flow making the heart work harder and thus one day triggering a massive fatal heart attack. Wine in its bountifulness contains antioxidants the most important of these is called resveratrol which makes sure that the arteries are clear and free of the fat buildup thus keeping the risk of heart disease at bay.

“An anti-oxidant is a thing that stops oxidation. Oxidation is basically rusting, so when we’re ageing we’re oxidizing or degenerating or rusting, so if you can block that process then you get all these health benefits because vascular disease, dementia, diabetes, all these cancers are forms of degeneration or oxidation,” says Dr Norrie.

There is a limit on the amount to consume as well, it is limited to about two glasses of wine a day, anymore if consumed, then it holds the risk of normal alcohol related problems of high blood pressure damage to organs etc.
