Taste and characteristics of red wine

red_wine.jpgSweet and Sour – the wines from Italy are a little sour and sweetly fruity. This mixture is because in Italy they would rather have wine with food than in itself, so this combination works well with foods such as duck. Grapes from Italy give a distinctive bite to the wine that produces a slightly sour and a distinctive cherry flavor to the nose.

Fruity and Juicy – tannins are usually present in all red wines, but defying these regularity there are some wines in the reds category which have fruity and juicy characteristics. These wines are not meant to be aged, having a fruity texture reminiscent of blackberry, blackcurrant or maybe a cherry plum. These wines can go with a wide variety of foods, good for beginners and are the best for serving as accompaniments.

Soft, Strawberry – pinot noir, the world famous wine falls in this category of strawberry wines, they have more tannins than their fruity cousins. Aging in this wine will give rise to complex aromas and mellowness. These can be the most softest of the wines giving a satin texture to the body of the wine and are quite delicious.

Rich, Spicy – when the bowl of the glass holds a deep smell, distinctive of spices and hints of sinful chocolate then we know that we have a typical shiraz grape wine at hand, style is most achieved by the Australian shiraz. They are more in alcohol content providing warmth and are thus more used in the cooler climes. They often carry an earthy hint with them.

Firm, Blackcurranty – the most consistent of wines are thus under this category, they give the body of the wine a full flavor and charm, aging always works wonders for this bouquet of smells captured in the bottle. It often reminds one of elegance of cigar boxes or smells of the woodiness of forest or pencils shavings. Cabernet sauvignon is a prefect example of the fullness this wine contains.
